First impressions matter — especially in care. When a new client or staff member joins Daffodil Therapy and Care, the person who makes them feel welcome, organised, and at ease is our Intake Officer, Niamh Shaw. Calm, kind, and wonderfully methodical, Niamh is the reason those all-important first steps feel smooth rather than stressful.
From admin to intake
Niamh isn't new to the Daffodil family. She's spent the past two years as part of our admin team, learning the ins and outs of how we work and quietly keeping things running behind the scenes. That experience made her the natural choice to step into her new role as Intake Officer — she already knows our systems, our people, and exactly what it takes to make onboarding seamless. It's a lovely example of growing talent from within. When someone knows your organisation this well, they bring a depth of understanding you simply can't hire off the street.
The heart of the onboarding journey
As Intake Officer, Niamh is often the first face new clients and staff meet. She guides everyone through those early steps: making sure documents are signed, details are correct, and everyone is properly set up in our systems. It sounds simple, but getting onboarding right takes real care and attention — one missed form or overlooked detail can cause stress down the line. That's where Niamh shines. Her methodical, detail-focused approach means nothing slips through the cracks, while her warm, calm nature makes people feel genuinely supported from the very beginning. She has a gift for making a process that could feel bureaucratic feel welcoming instead. And if you drop by the office, you might just catch her filling in on the reception desk too — always ready with a friendly hello.
More than meets the eye
There's another string to Niamh's bow: she's currently studying speech pathology at university. That passion for helping people communicate and thrive fits perfectly with the values at the heart of what we do, and it brings an extra layer of insight and empathy to her work. We're proud to support her studies and can't wait to see where her journey takes her.
The honest picture
Balancing a demanding role with university study isn't easy, and onboarding season can get genuinely busy — plenty of people to welcome, plenty of details to track. But Niamh handles it all with the same steady calm, and we make sure she has the support and flexibility to thrive in both. A team member who's growing and learning is a team member worth investing in.
Making everything run smoothly
Some people make an organisation better simply by how they show up — organised, kind, and endlessly reliable. Niamh is one of those people. Whether she's welcoming a nervous new client, setting up a new staff member, or covering the front desk with a smile, she keeps everything running smoothly.
Thank you, Niamh, for being such a warm and steady first hello for everyone who joins the Daffodil family.
